So now Mike Shanahan is involved in some summer football developmental league? Gee with all the hours Kevin Sheehan spent trying to rabbi for him to get another NFL head coaching job. NO NFL TEAM WOULD TOUCH SHANAHAN WITH A TEN FOOT POLE AND KEVIN WAS SO SURE TEAMS WOULD BEND OVER BACKWARDS TO HIRE HIM. SHANAHAN WAS AN ABJECT FAILURE IN DC AND ANYBODY WITH HALF A BRAIN KNEW THAT WAS THE DEATH KNELL FOR HIS HEAD COACHING FUTURE IN THE NFL.
The college game far outperforms the pro game. The NFL has moved from sport to entertainment. From the pregame show that is more like TMZ then football, to the constant antics by the players to develop signature celebrations, to the constant references during broadcast about the personalities rather then the play on the field. I am tired of hearing about this suspension or that drug test or some guys contract situation. I am an avid Redskins fan and watch their games, but have only a casual interest in most other NFL games.
The college game is an event surrounding a football game. But the focus is still on the game on the field. They play with more enthusiasm and the crowds are more responsive. I am a UMD season ticket holder and attend every home game. I watch college game day, followed by my tailgating, then the game and drive home and turn on the next game. I do not need to bet on these games to hype my interest. The college game is better on all levels.
Sheehan should hush when it comes to giving any opinion on hiring a coach as he still thinks Mike Shanahan's time here in Washington was a glowing success. Kevin believes ZERO playoff victories in 4 years is great leadership.
Coolie & Kevin can't take it when the callers emphatically tell them that Kirk didn't prove it to us. The callers said there's still doubt when it comes to Cousins and then Kevin starts crying and whining about defense. Guys the people recognize a mediocre QB when they see it. Even John Riggins said the Redskins have mastered mediocrity. CASE CLOSED
this isn't about kirk's performance it's about whether mccloughan is willing to pay market value for the asset he has under his control. last year that answer was no/maybe. this year the stakes are up & we'll see. that was not a "let's see you prove it year" that was a "let me figure out what my other options are before i commit" year.
The more Kevin Sheehan tries to sell us Cousins the more desperate he sounds. It's like he's trying to convince himself.
@skofield1 , exactly! its pathetic.
Skins should not bring back cousins, he is to soft of a player. Dont see him as a leader...trade for tyrod taylor. Garcon, djack and tyrod taylor would be a good line up. Sure Taylor can put up point's in the end zone. #httr
To hear Kevin complain about the Defense is laughable. Cousins and the offense scored TEN points TEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@skofield1 John just inherited Dungy's team, he didn't anything done after that year. Plus I hate listening to him on MNF, he thinks he knows what play is going to be run and for the most part he is wrong. Get Jay out of DC and John off of TV...
Why is there no discussion of Gruden? How is it possible that Jay and John came from the same mother? There is no FIRE in that man! What would it take for him to get fired up??? He always looks like the kid who was picked last in the schoolyard pick up game on the sidelines. The skins need motivators like Garcon. It starts with the coach!!! I blame Gruden. ALL of the teams have talent. The motivated, fired up teams will win.
My takeaways. I told my buddy I wanted that PA pass on 1st down to start the 3rd, but after he sees that blitz look, Kirk HAS TO check out of that play. No time for it with that front in his face. Has to throw hot to Desean on a go route or a quick hitter to Garcon. A good QB doesn't run that play, he just doesn't. Our S play is the worst in the league. Why are we playing zone when our guys always look lost? Just play man so they at least know their responsibilities. How hard can it be to scheme half of the field on D when you know Norman is ok alone on his side?
Why wasn't there a ten second run off for an injured player with no time outs. I thought an injury inside of one minute left in the game cost the offense a time out or ten seconds.
Cooley, while I respect you're incredible knowledge of the game of football, I'd strongly suggest you keep your opinions on climate change and other truly important subjects (like the presidential election) to yourself. That is, OFF sports talk radio. When I want to hear intelligent commentary on vital global issues like climate change I will tune in elsewhere. And, while I'm at it, you're repeated references to "chick ref" are frat-boy obnoxious. Reminder: you're not skipping classes at Utah State anymore, bro...
@wwc Cooley is an idiot! he has no real knowledge.
Good show today fellas. Your on-air chemistry has always been what brings most people to the show, and your very sharp and incisive analysis keeps us listening. Very glad you have cleaned up the sex/misogyny stuff. Thank you.
I agree with the comments regarding Cooley's sexual comments. Kevin, it is not you starting it, I understand that, and I appreciate that you have brought him back at times. I wish that he would keep it professional. Cooley does an awesome job, but he needs to clean up his act.
@jollyjake I agree with everything except the part about "awesome job"
This e-mail is mainly addressed to Kevin. I have listened to this station since you were on the show with John Riggins way back when and I'm trying to figure out what has happened to you over the last year or so. Your show with Cooley at time has turned into the Howard Stern show with the sexual references. My kids and I listen to the station on the way to school and I had to turn it off this morning. It's one thing to make that type of joke once and let it go, but you two seem to revel in that type of talk. And this morning it went way over board. I am by no means any sort of holy roller and want to censor TV or radio but it comes a point where it's too much. With all your past shows there was always an adult in the booth...Doc, Riggins, Lovero, and they would have never allowed that type of talk on air. If they did it was always a quick quip and then you would move on. Now it's seems you are the adult in the booth and have allowed Cooley and a frat boy mentality to take over the show. I would bet a good amount of money you'd have a problem with the discussion this morning if it wasn't your show and your boys were listening. Your better than this and you don't need to do it. Leave that crap for the guys to discuss at midnight. Thanks.
Totally concur. Thanks for also raising this point. So embarrassed this morning on the ride to school
Very disappointed in you guys. I listen to your show every morning with my kids in the car. Including a 15 year old boy. The game was like not finishing when effing a 10? It was a c-block? Blue balls? Are you kidding me? I thought you guys were better than that.
@Kleggett It's standard Cooley vulgarity. Amazing how he's made it for 2, 3 years. Even Czabe couldn't take it any more!
Really disingenuous question this morning cooley.. "do affluent whites with million dollar homes" have an understanding of general African american issues? Gee, who knows? I'm not an affluent white. Just an aver white fellow. No wonder no million dollar whites called in.
Come on, not all whites are affluent.. Not all African Americans are broke. Stop treating them as such.
Good morning espn980!
My name is Mike Menefee and I recently moved from my hometown of DC to the eastern shore, a little town called Chestertown. My wife's family has owned and operated a dairy farm of 800 acres since the 1950's. So you could imagine myself, a city-slicker, moving to cow-town, and trying to embrace the simplicity of life on the shore.
When we decided to make the move back to my wife's hometown, as a gift for my sacrifice (commuting to Baltimore every day), she granted me the entire basement for my man-cave. Once I heard those sweet, sweet words, I did not hesitate and immediately drove to Home Depot to start my project. As you can see in the pictures below, the Redskins man-cave turned out beautifully.
Doing the lines myself was kind of a pain in the ass, but all worth it in the end.
As you can see my memorabilia collection is rather bare for the walls. My hope is that someone from your staff finds this message and can help donate some items to my basement.
Cooley, Doc, and my man B-mitch- it would be an absolute honor to receive any Washington Redskins items from you. Doc, you played during the Civil War, and unfortunately I was unable to appreciate your greatness since I was born in 1987. But as any proud veteran, your War stories have resonated with me through stories told my Dad. Brian, you gave me my 1st impressions as a young Redskins fan during the 90's, and it broke my heart to see you cross over that ugly-ass green team. However, you came back home and everything has been forgiven. And Cooley, as a fellow wrestler and tight-end myself, what else is there to say?
I am pretty skeptical this message will even be seen, but in the event that it does...you would be making a 29-year-old-father-to-be-DC-native-eastern-shore-living Redskins fan a very happy man.
